True Companions Animal Shelter & Clinic Mission and Model:
To shelter, care for and find homes for pets in our community, and welcome into our care even those pets with the most critical need. We do this while working to forward the No Kill movement through community, advocacy, and by maximizing programs that strengthen this mission.
True Companions is a No Kill shelter, working to save, provide care for and ultimately rehome all healthy and treatable pets that come into our care. Euthanasia is only a consideration should an animal be deemed irremediably suffering and not treatable, by a licensed veterinarian.

Our K9 First Aid and CPR course spans a total of 6.5 hours. This duration is carefully planned to ensure you have ample time to absorb the information, ask questions, and practice hands-on skills. We believe in the importance of understanding over rushing; hence, we’ve allocated enough time for each participant to grasp the concepts thoroughly. Our comprehensive class content covers over 30 critical first-aid topics. It’s not all talk, either! We use high-quality K9 CPR manikins for you to perform ‘mouth-to-snout’ breathing and compressions, simulating real-life emergencies. One of the highlights of our curriculum includes special training on handling choking emergencies—since choking has been the leading cause of trauma death in dogs since 2017.

Ground Rules:
While we love all dogs, we kindly request that you leave your furry friends home for this event. However, service dogs are always welcome. We understand that learning can be intense, so short breaks will be provided during the course. Feel free to bring any food or non-alcoholic beverages to keep your energy levels up.
You must notify our instructors at least one week before the class if you have any food allergies or specific health ailments. This allows us to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for everyone. Your safety is our priority, and we strive to make this learning experience as enjoyable and beneficial as possible for all attendees.
Certification Options:
- Basic Course: $119 Includes a 3-year certification wallet card and the course handbook.
- Premium Course: $149: Includes a LIFETIME certification wallet card (Students may take a refresher course at no charge in the future with proof of original certification from K9 First-aid and CPR) and will also receive the course handbook.
- VIP- aka Big Dog Course $169: This is our most popular package as each student will get an autographed copy of the book K9 MEDIC UNLEASHED from author Eric “Odie” Roth. The Big Dog package Includes a LIFETIME certification wallet card, and you will also receive the course handbook. (Students may take a refresher course at no charge in the future with proof of original certification from K9 First-aid and CPR)
